Additional Information for Applicants

The Selection Process
Selection of applicants will be based on consideration of a number of factors, including overall GPA, volunteer/work experience, and recommendation letters. Students who are admitted, tentatively admitted, or denied admission will be notified in writing by letter or e-mail. A limited number of students denied admission but meeting eligibility criteria may be offered placement on the waiting list.

The Admissions Committee reserves the right to remove an application from consideration if patterns of past or current academic performance indicate that the applicant is at risk of not succeeding in the intense and demanding Occupational Therapy Education Program. These patterns include multiple withdrawals, failures or repeats of coursework as noted on official transcripts. If the Admissions Committee identifies concerns, the applicant may be notified before the selection process takes place and be asked to provide additional information. Failure to provide complete and accurate information during the application process will jeopardize selection status and may result in dismissal from the program or other disciplinary action. Once the requested information been submitted, the student will be notified whether or not she/he will be eligible for consideration.

KUMC is committed to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in all programs and services, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or veteran status.

Technical Standards and Accommodations
Please read the program technical standards carefully after you submit your application materials. Signed verification will be required of our students after they have been accepted.

Reasonable accommodations will be made for any accepted student who has a documented disability and can meet program expectations. Applicants with documented disabilities can request reasonable accommodations if needed during the admissions process. They may obtain information regarding services for students with disabilities who are attending school at KUMC by contacting Carol Wagner, MPA, Americans with Disabilities Act/504 Coordinator at 913. 588.7813, or TTY at 913.588.7963.

Certification
The National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy administers a national certification examination to graduates of accredited programs. Many states require licensure or registration to practice. All program requirements must be completed before students are eligible to take the certification exam. Felons: Applicants who have been convicted of a felony should be aware of the fact that application for licensure, certification, or registration will be subject to review and additional information may be requested. Based on the review process, denial of licensure, certification, and/or registration may occur and subsequent opportunities for employment may be compromised.

Academic requirements are subject to change without notice. Interested parties should contact the Admissions Committee of the Department of Occupational Therapy Education for the most up-to-date information on requirements.

If you desire an advisement, appointments must be made in advance. Admissions Committee representatives are available on the Medical Center campus (913.588.7174), 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, or on the Lawrence campus (785.864.2834) through the Freshman - Sophomore Advising Center by appointment only.
