STEP 1:
Contact agencies required to send information directly to the KU Department of Occupational Therapy Education.

  1. Arrange to have one official copy of transcripts from each college and university that you have attended sent directly to the KU Department of Occupational Therapy Education.

  2. If English is a second language, applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and arrange for scores to be sent directly to the KU Department of Occupational Therapy Education. A satisfactory score on the TOEFL must be obtained within the previous two (2) years (see guidelines for TOEFL).

    Note that if you have graduated with a baccalaureate or higher degree from program taught in English at an international institution, verification of English instruction from the university is required as part of the application, and must be included as part of the application package. Verification can be from a catalogue or program description brochure or an official letter from a department chair, dean or other university official stipulating English language as the method of instruction.

STEP 2:
Complete all required application forms and documentation and mail in one package to the Department of Occupational Therapy Education.
Use the appropriate application packet below. We suggest you complete the forms by typing into the fields using your computer before printing them out . This will avoid delays caused by hand-written applications. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view and print the forms.

International Students
Before completing these application materials, please review the Affidavit of Support to make sure you will be able to provide all necessary supporting documentation later on. All international students must complete an Affidavit of Support to establish that they have proof of funding for their studies and living expenses while attending classes at KUMC. The Affidavit and supporting documentation must be provided prior to the issuance of an I-20 or DS2019. Funding requirements are listed on the Affidavit of Support. If you are accepted into a program at KU, an International Student Advisor will contact you via email and request the Affidavit of Support.

TECHNICAL STANDARDS
If you are admitted to our program and you intend to accept the admission offer and enroll in our program, you will be required to complete a separate form so that proper accommodations may be made for you as necessary. The admission committee will consult with applicants who indicate that they cannot meet the technical standards with or without reasonable accommodation. The faculty responsible for the academic program and the members of the admissions committee may seek advice in each individual situation from the EO/Disability Specialist.

BACKGROUND CHECK FOR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
Acceptance into School of Allied Health academic programs is conditional, pending the results of a criminal/healthcare-related background check. Regulations governing activities related to patient care or working in school systems require that our students must have criminal background checks and other healthcare related checks. Upon being accepted into the program, you will be instructed on how to obtain the required documentation. Details are attached.

APPLICANTS HAVING A BACHELOR'S DEGREE
Students with a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy may apply to the program. If accepted their admission will be considered provisional based on successful completion of 27 credits of prerequisite master’s level coursework. Prerequisite courses center and required credit hours are described below. Your academic advisor will assist in the selection of appropriate coursework.

  1. Research — 6 credits
    One statistics/research design course and one evidence based practice course.
  2. Population, community, system — 6 credits –
    Courses that focus on understanding/assessing or learning how to provide services to populations, communities and or systems would be acceptable
  3. Leadership and advanced practice — 6 credits
    Course credit can be fulfilled through college courses, CEUs or AOTA specialty certification
  4. Writing — 3 credits
    Writing course needs to be a graduate level writing course that prepares students for professional/technical graduate level writing
