School of Allied Health  :  Dean Miller  :  A Welome from the Dean

Welcome from Dean Miller

The University of Kansas School of Allied Health is a regional leader in health professions education. We offer academic programs in over twenty of the health sciences fields, with more than 500 students in baccalaureate, graduate and certificate programs. Since 1974 we have built a strong reputation of professional diversity and clinical excellence. As a result, we have a responsibility to address the challenges inherent in a highly complex health care environment. At the same time that our nation's researchers are making unprecedented biomedical discoveries, such as antiviral vaccines, gene therapies, maintenance of health in aging and post-trauma rehabilitative interventions, escalating health care costs decrease the public's access to disease prevention and personal health care services.

As our "baby boom" generation ages and more people suffer from the lack of sufficient access to health care, there is increasing pressure on allied health professionals to expand our nation's continuum of health services.

According to the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professionals (ASAHP) in Washington, DC, national shortages of certain health professionals will cause inadequate patient care outcomes and insufficient care providers to meet future demands. We need more caring and compassionate individuals who are committed to careers that make a difference in other people's lives. Future health care quality in our region depends on the expertise of KU School of Allied Health graduates!

Welcome to the KU School of Allied Health!
